We hope this message finds you well! As we gear up for another exciting season of HOOPSWOOD basketball, we have provided detailed information regarding tryouts, team announcements, exciting new partnership with 205 HOOPS, and the practice schedule for the upcoming season.
We will hold multiple tryout dates to give every athlete ample opportunity to showcase their skills, work ethic, and team-first mentality. Attendance at as many sessions as possible is highly encouraged for a full evaluation.
3rd/4th Grade: 5:15-6:15 pm /// 5th/6th Grade: 6:30-7:30 pm
Each session will involve skill work, competitive drills, and controlled scrimmage situations. Our coaching staff—including Coach Harlow, Coach Laatsch, and members of the high school and middle school coaching staff—will evaluate athletes across multiple criteria.
Team Selection & Announcement:
Final HOOPSWOOD team rosters will be announced on Monday October 19.
OTM League
Each age group will have two teams of 8-10 players that will compete in the OTM League this Winter.
HOOPSWOOD Development Program in Partnership with 205 HOOPS
We do not believe in cutting youth players - we believe in developing them. Any player not selected to an OTM team will still be a part of competitive basketball in Homewood. These players will receive HOOPSWOOD-directed coaching in partnership with the staff at 205 HOOPS. There will be two sessions per week. Time and location will be communicated well ahead of time.
We are committed to ensuring all players are placed where they can develop and contribute to competitive basketball in this community. Because the number of players in each age group is unknown, several details are not available at this time.
Important Dates and Tournaments:
CM Newton Classic Players on the Red and White Teams for age groups 3rd-6th grade will compete in the CM Newton Classic tournament tentatively scheduled for Dec 7-12.
Jingle Bell Jam Players on the Red and White Teams for each age group will participate in the Jingle Bell Jam tentatively scheduled for December 17-20.
Practice Schedule:
Once teams are announced, practices will begin the following week. Exact practice times will be communicated closer to the start of practices.
Both OTM teams within each age group will practice during the same time slot, but on separate courts within the same facility. This allows for consistency and convenience for families while giving each team dedicated court space.
Practice plans will be thoroughly designed by Coach Harlow, Coach Laatsch, and the high school coaching staff to ensure every minute in the gym is productive and focused on skill development, team concepts, and player growth.
Cost and Registration:
To register your player, please do so through this Ryzer LINK.
The initial cost is $250. This covers all HoopsWood directed instruction and skill sessions.
If your player is selected to a team that plays in the OTM League, an additional payment of $200 will be required, and we will send that link separately to those teams. (See attached pricing graphic for more information)
* Sizing guides are available HERE. You will provide your player’s sizing information on the registration link above. This will allow us to have uniforms ready in time for competitive play.
Scholarships are available! We never want cost to be a reason that a player does not participate. Any donations to HoopsWood for scholarshipping players are appreciated! Please email info@hoopswood.com for any further information. We have been fortunate to receive donations specifically for scholarships that are available as needed. Thank you to those that have donated!
Rec Basketball Participation:
We have had very successful coordination with Homewood Parks and Rec! Last season saw minimal scheduling issues on both Saturdays for games and week nights for practices. We’d like to thank the Parks and Rec department for their coordination to help grow youth basketball in Homewood!
HOOPSWOOD Coaching: If you are interested in coaching your player’s team, please fill out this Google FORM. Coaches will be selected by Coach Harlow and Coach Laatsch.
In the coming weeks, we will send additional information regarding:
Feel free to forward this email to any families in Homewood who you think would like to participate in competitive basketball this season - we would love to add them to our growing distribution list.
We appreciate your commitment to HOOPSWOOD basketball and your support in making this season a great experience for all players.
If you have any questions at this time, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
We look forward to seeing your daughter in the gym soon!
